Problems and side effects with Invisalign
Bad results with Invisalign?
The experience with Invisalign orthodontics is mostly positive and the level of satisfaction is very high. However, each treatment is unique and patients wonder why the results can differ so much from case to case.
During the last few years, copies and replicas have appeared that try to imitate Invisalign technology, although they do not succeed. The results of Invisalign are truly spectacular. So, can Invisalign have bad results?
We see what side effects can generate this sensation in patients:
Can Invisalign have side effects?
Invisalign, like other orthodontic treatments with invisible aligners, can have certain side effects.
- Pain and discomfort: It is common to experience pain or discomfort, especially during the first few days of wearing each new set of aligners. This is because the teeth are moving.
- Irritation of the gums and mouth: The aligners may rub against the gums, lips or tongue, causing irritation or small ulcers.
- Temporomandibular problems (TMJ): In some cases, the use of aligners can aggravate or provoke problems in the temporomandibular joint, causing pain in the jaw.
- Difficulty speaking: At first, some patients may find it difficult to speak clearly while getting used to the aligners.
- Excessive salivation or dry mouth: The use of aligners may affect saliva production, causing excessive salivation or dry mouth.
- Cavities and gum problems: If aligners are not cleaned properly or if the patient does not maintain good oral hygiene, there may be an increased risk of cavities or gum disease.
- Allergies: Although rare, some people may have an allergic reaction to the materials in the aligners.
- Root resorption: In rare cases, tooth movement can lead to tooth root resorption, which is a decrease in the length of tooth roots.
It is important to follow your orthodontist’s instructions and keep follow-up appointments to minimize these side effects. If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, you should contact your orthodontist as soon as possible.
