Tips for maximum treatment efficiency
To maximize the efficiency of Invisalign treatment and obtain the best results, it is important to follow certain recommendations and maintain a disciplined routine. Here are some useful tips:
01
Wear aligners consistently: Wear aligners at least 20-22 hours a day. Only take them out to eat, drink (except water), brush your teeth and clean the aligners. Follow your orthodontist's instructions on wearing and changing aligners.
02
Maintain Good Oral Hygiene: Brush and floss your teeth after every meal before putting your aligners back in. This prevents food particles from becoming trapped and causing cavities or bad breath. Clean Invisalign aligners regularly using a soft toothbrush and warm water, or use specific products recommended by your orthodontist.
03
Follow the Treatment Plan: Change to a new set of aligners as directed by your orthodontist, usually every 1-2 weeks. Attend all scheduled appointments with your orthodontist to ensure that treatment is progressing as planned and to make adjustments if necessary.
04
Managing Discomfort: It is normal to feel some discomfort or pressure when changing to a new set of aligners. This usually disappears within a few days. Wearing aligners as directed helps minimize this discomfort.
05
Additional Care: Do not drink beverages that may stain the aligners (such as coffee, tea or red wine) while wearing them.
06
Communication with the Orthodontist: Inform your orthodontist immediately if you experience problems with the aligners, such as breakage, loss of aligners, or if you feel that the aligners do not fit properly. Don't hesitate to ask any questions or concerns you have about treatment.
07
Maintain Motivation:Remember that consistent and proper use of aligners is crucial to achieve the desired results.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, especially the first day you change the splints, you will notice pressure on your teeth, but this will improve as the hours go by. This pressure is due to the force exerted on the tooth by the aligners that help move the tooth into the desired position. This feeling of pressure is a good sign, as it means that the treatment is working.
Most patients are not affected in the way they speak. However, there is a period of adaptation during the first few weeks where you will have to get used to the presence of the splints in your mouth – you will notice more saliva than usual and your tongue sometimes contacts the aligners affecting your pronunciation, but once the initial period is over your mouth will get used to them and you will stop noticing the aligners.
Yes, you can eat anything with invisible braces. During meals you have to remove the invisible braces to be able to eat normally. Invisalign allows you to eat any food and does not hinder your daily oral hygiene.
Yes, you can drink normally. If you are wearing the clear braces, you have to avoid drinking hot beveragesbut you can drink water and/or any beverage without any problems with them on. You can always take them out and clean them with water for example after drinking a beverage.
Wearing aligners does not prevent smoking, but tobacco smoke can alter the splints so it is ideal to remove them for smoking.
Invisalign can treat the simplest to the most complex cases, most patients are suitable for treatment with Invisalign:
- Crowding and/or crooked teeth.
- Class II.
- Class III.
- Crossbite.
- Open bite.
- Deep bite.
- Diastemas or dental spaces.
Yes, the results of invisible orthodontics can be definitive, but we must use retention. Our teeth have memory and once the treatment with Invisalign or another orthodontic method is finished, they will want to return to their initial position, but we can avoid this by using retention methods. It is necessary to take measures to prevent this from happening, so that the results of invisible orthodontics settle and thus avoid relapses, i.e., return to the starting point.
For this purpose, we use retainers that can be fixed or removable according to the patient’s choice.
Yes, invisible orthodontics with the Invisalign method is suitable for the whole family – from the youngest members of the family (Invisalign First) through teenagers (Invisalign Teen) to adults (Invisalign Express, Lite or Full).
Periodontal disease is a disease that affects the gums and the supporting tissue of the tooth. If periodontal disease (gingivitis or periodontitis) is present, it is necessary that a professional eliminate gum inflammation before starting orthodontic treatment either with brackets or aligners. Once the patient has healthy gums we can start planning the orthodontic treatment.
The disadvantages of invisible orthodontics are few compared to its advantages. Some of the disadvantages may be:
- As they are removable, the patient can lose the splints.
- The patient needs to have discipline to comply with the treatment, as we have mentioned, the aligners must be worn at least 22 hours a day.
