Lithium Disilicate Veneers
This material is the result of the alchemy between glass and ceramics, making it a resistant and flexible material.
If we combine its resistance with its esthetic characteristics, we obtain a versatile material for dental prostheses, crowns, bridges and, of course, veneers.
But due to its tendency to suffer splintering or small fractures, we prefer composite veneers, which in addition to having great esthetic properties and being minimally invasive, are also repairable in the event of possible fractures.
Advantages of Lithium Disilicate:
- Aesthetics: It blends in perfectly with the tooth surface.
- Resistance: Great mechanical properties.
- Durability: Very durable over the years.
- Handling: Easy handling by the laboratory, flexible material, with very good esthetic results, high cementation capacity to the dental surface.
Lithium Disilicate Disadvantages
- Fragility: In spite of their good mechanical properties, they can be susceptible to fracture or splintering if subjected to intense masticatory forces or excessive stress.
- Tooth sensitivity: You may experience tooth sensitivity after veneers are placed, it may be due to the removal of enamel during tooth preparation.
- In case of fracture it is more difficult to repair them and they need to be replaced.
- Further visits are required for placement.
